Dark Horse Comics and Slayer to release Slayer: Repentless
Dark Horse Comics and thrash-punk titans Slayer have joined forces to deliver a new comic series this holiday season. The comic has full participation from the band and takes inspiration from their recent Repentless music videos. Jon Schnepp will pen the three-issue comic series with interior bloodlines drawn by Guiu Vilanova. Glenn Fabry’s covers reign in blood and Eric Powell will illustrate the variant cover for the first issue.
“I think of the songs I write as stories. If nothing else they are certainly visual.” Slayer’s Kerry King told Rolling Stone in an exclusive interview. Writer Jon Schnepp told Rolling Stone, “It’s definitely a lot of sensitive subjects that need to be explored and addressed. What’s the best way to explore those? With the chaos of metal.”
For more than three decades Slayer’s onslaught has proven the band to be the supreme thrash-metal band on the planet. The band that other heavy acts are measured against and aspire to. The two-time Grammy-winners have also accumulated an abundance of certified Gold Albums along with “Best…” awards from media outlets all over the world. Throughout Slayer’s history they have never faltered in unleashing their extreme and focused sonic assault. Slayer has remained crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the mainstream. Slayer’s founding member, guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed in 2013. Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has been filling in for him since. Paul Bostaph (Slayer’s drummer from ’94 – ’01) has rejoined bassist/vocalist Tom Araya and guitarist Kerry King.
Slayer: Repentless #1 (of 3) is on comic stands in December 2016.
