Carnage has been lurking around the edges of the Marvel Universe for a little while now. He was resurrected by worshipers of Knull. If you’ve been away from the whole symbiote mess for awhile, let me catch you up.
Knull is a god who has been around since before time. He created the symbiotes to be his army. He wanted to destroy all things good and light. Eventually the symbiotes rebelled against him. What you think is the planet Klyntar is actually billions of the symbiotes that have formed around Knull to keep him imprisoned. The symbiotes are able to communicate with each other through a hive-mind kind of connection.
It is found out that when a symbiote merges with a host, it leaves a little bit of itself in the host’s DNA. They call this little bit a codex. Carnage believes Venom and his offspring (including himself) cannot contact the hive-mind due to their codexes being thinned out amongst too many hosts. His plan is to find all the codexes and bring them back together so he may be able to contact the hive-mind and Knull himself. Two problems, one – Knull is really evil and wants to destroy just about everything. two – the easiest way to remove a codex from a host proves fatal.
So, Absolute Carnage story-line will be following his quest to find and unite all the codexes from the symbiotes on Earth. Since nearly everyone in the Marvel Universe has had a symbiote at some point in time, the list is quite extensive.
