Starship Troopers Traitor of Mars interview SDCC 2017

Starship Troopers is a cult classic satirical military science-fiction action film. It was directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Edward Neumeier. The story is based on a script called Bug Hunt at Outpost Nine, The name Starship Troopers was licensed from a science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein.

The story follows the exploits of a young Mobile Infantry soldier named Johnny Rico. The Mobile Infantry is a futuristic military unit. Rico’s military career progresses from recruit to NCO and finally to officer during an interstellar war between mankind and an insectoid species known as “Arachnids”.

There was a 1999 CGI animated half-hour television series entitled Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles. The series only lasted for one season. It ends on a cliffhanger without a proper finale.

There are two live-action sequels, Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004) and Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008). There are also two animated films, Starship Troopers: Invasion (2012) and Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars (2017). The animated films ignore the live action films and serve as sequels to the original.

In “STARSHIP TROOPERS: TRAITOR OF MARS,” Johnny Rico has just been demoted and sent to a small satellite station on Mars whilst the Federation attacks the bugs’ home planet. While trying to train his new recruits on this remote quiet station, the bugs show up in a surprise attack but the Federation’s Fleet is too far away to help. It’s up to Rico and his Troopers to save the planet and uncover how the bugs made it so close to home.
